Goooooooood morning skiers and snowboarders, this is Mario with your SnoFax Update for Wednesday, November 27th, 2024!
It has been dumping for most of the night, and if you tune into the Tram Cam right now, it's nothing but a face full of flakes. The forecast is calling for bluebird sunny skies by 7am, and there's already 4" on the ground. I'd welcome some more snow this morning, but there really would be no better way to start off the season than with a BLUEBIRD pow day. Northwest winds have died down to nearly a stand still, as this storm is unloading the last of it's goods.
TEMPS AND WIND: Temps today should range between 7°F and 25°F and winds should remain calm and out of the Southwest at 5-10mph.
We can certainly expect to see deeper snow off of Challenger and higher up on the mountain. A 4-6" pow day is the perfect way to grease the tracks, but this 4-6" is really going to feel more like 2 feet if you find yourself off of the beaten path. But nontheless, 4-6" is the textbook perfect pow day for Big Sky. We don't need feet on feet of snow to have a great time here, just a little cushion.
Certainly you are going to hear today that much of today's skiing alone is going to be FAR better than all or most of last year's icy, rocky, dry conditions. Strike while the iron is hot and make the most of these rope drop runs, as you will not have an opportunity to ski Midnight or Moonlight off of Challenger without Moguls until NEXT SEASON.
HOT TAKE: They're opening Challenger and not the Bowl??? I highly doubt that. I am guessing we see Powder seeker and the Bowl opened up by noon. We will have to see, possibly even skiing off of the Tram. I am sure there's lots of infrastructure that needs set up, but I am confident there's enough snow for at least the Bowl to be opened up.
WORD OF CAUTION: Do not let today's GREAT conditions fool you. These are great EARLY SEASON conditions, and undoubtedly there are going to be few out there that think this 2 feet of powder over a 22" rock will save them from season ending injury. People hurt themselves so regularly on POW days, and to start the season off with one--- let's just say a lot of people have a lot of warming up to do.
Until tomorrow, this is Mario Carr with SnoFax, signing off.
