NO NEW SNOW FOR 5 DAYS
MID MOUNTAIN BASE DEPTH AT LOBO 23.8"
DOES WIND LOADING = NEW SNOW?
Good morning skiers and snowboarders, this is Mario with your SnoFax update for Monday, December 2nd, 2024. Sorry for a delayed report this morning, but considering there's no new snow I gave myself some grace on getting this put out. Temps are already beginning to hover above freezing at mid-mountain, and we've got a bluebird day ahead of us. We can expect the snow that is getting sun, to soften up as the day goes on. This should make for enjoyable carvable groomers later in the day.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps are expected to range from about 25°F to 41°, with mid mountian temps inthe 30's, and winds should be out of the West at 10-15mph, with gusts to 30mph at the summit.
THE SKIING: I myself havent heard how Liberty Bowl was skiing yesterday, but I did find it funny that the resort posted a dated video of people skiing fresh powder on Liberty Bowl, with no disclaimer that that footage was old. Obviously I was able to know better, but perhaps there were some that did not realize that was the type of skiing they would be getting into off the Tram Yesterday. If that sun continues to beat down and temps rise enough, we could see some sun soften turns off of the summit, which can be some of the most fun skiing you can get into up there.
MYSTERY INCH?: The resort is reporting an inch of now snow on Liberty Bowl overnight. By looking at the Tram cam, we can see stars and clear skies all night. The summit weather station recorded Northwest winds maxing out at 35mph this morning. This inch is more than likely the result of a wind-loaded sensor. I find it hard to believe that the entire Bowl is coated with an inch of snow, and also lets keep in mind this system rounds up form .5 inches. When reporting, these were the types of numbers that Joe and I would override as snow reporters. Given the written report has been transferred over to Mountain Ops, I would not be surprised if they no longer have the ability to dispute these numbers.
If you get out today, and you ski Liberty Bowl, please let me know if there is in fact an inch of snow.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
