DUST ON CRUST* 1-2" OF SNOW MID MOUNTAIN OVERNIGHT
MID MOUNTAIN BASE DEPTH
LOBO 31.6"
LOOKOUT 30.8"
Good morning skiers and snowboarders, this is Mario with your Big Sky SnoFax report for Sunday, December 22nd 2024. A thin layer of snow has been delivered, along with nearly a 20°F temperature drop. By noon yesterday, the sun had warmed the South Face enough for Patrol to close Shedhorn and Dakota. Dust on crust is the name of the game today, unless an area was shaded enough to remain chalky underneath this new snow. All things considered, our skiing is still amazing and there's so much to choose from. I'm hearing some reports of a thin base on the North Side, but hopefully with a couple more storms we will be in the clear over there.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temperatures are expected to range between 16°F at the summit, and 32°F at the base, with mid mountain temps in the 20's. Winds are expected out of the Southwest, gusting to 35mph at the summit. All of this under mostly cloudy skies, with the sun poking through around noon.
More snow on and off all week, with the potential for a snowy Christmas! Not much more you could ask for. Apologies for the late report this morning, but amazing news we now have over 60 members! Thankyou all so much for your support! Become a supporter/contributor today to share your view of the mountain! By the people, for the people baby!
The mountain is in need of unbiased reporting, supported and funded by the community and the civilians skiing every day. SnoFax can unite everybody from one-weekend tourists, to the most seasoned Ski Patrollers that know our mountain better than everybody, with the common goal of sharing the most accurate and pertinent information as possbile so we can all have a better, safer time out on the mountain.
In other news, it appears the resort is more on top of their automated algorithm already, as Andesite was reporting 5" overnight (on the YC station) but our webcam clearly shows only 1". Props to them for preventing that confusion.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
