ANOTHER POW DAY
3-4" IN LAST 24 HOURS
It's just nonstop snow out here and it's going to continue snowing through the weekend. At least 10" in the last 72 hours and the skiing is all time. Be forewarned, it is ALL IN skiing. There's 4-6" of soft FAST powder on top of moguls, and untouch base, so skiing right now requires your full attention. It's great skiing but it's tiring. One loss of focus and you'll hit a buried mogul, or a soft patch and be digging snow out of your goggles. No visibility up top, and humid conditions down low. Warmer temps down low made for iced skies on Challenger, leading to a nasty stick at the the top yesterday. Temps are supposed to drop a little today as winds are expected to shift.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temperatures are expected to range between 10°F at the summit, and 27°F at the base, with mid mountain temps settling into the teens. Winds are have been out of the South/Southwest for the last 24 hours, but are expected to start rolling in from the NW, along with even more snowfall before noon.
Hills are crowded but managable, and it seems the crowds are building up at bottlenecks like Fast Lane and the entrances to the bases. It is a bit like frogger out there at times. The powder snow has beginners moving more slowly and unpredictably than usual.
I am headed to teach ski school today, such a great place to live where I can call skiing powder with kids "work". I hope you appreciate the effort I put into these writing SnoFax, as I am striving to make this the best snow report in the world. But it's not possible without you, this report is by the people for the people! Become as supporter/contributor today!
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
