SOUTH FACE ANOMALY AGAIN???
24 HOUR TOTALS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
BAVARIA: 14" LIBERTY BOWL: 15"+
LOOKOUT RIDGE: 3.5"
LOBO 2.2"
ANDESITE 2"
I am beginning to believe that the term "South Face Anomaly" is a bit deceiving, as once again, and perhaps to the most extreme degree yet this season, the South Face has received drastically more snow than the rest of the resort, with Bavaria and Liberty reporting over 13" in the last 24 hours. The rest of resort has gotten roughly 2-4". Yesterday the resort reported an iffy 9" on Andesite, which was likely very wind effected, Bavaria however, saw winds topping around only 10mph last night. I have seen these kinds of numbers before, but with no cameras and no human eyes on the snow, we will have to just wait and see. But the conditions are perfect with calm NW winds, and single digit temps that are expected to continue all day long. I unfortunately cannot make the mountain on Sundays, so SnoFax needs you!
WIND AND TEMPS: Temps are expected to range between 3°F at the summit, and 21°F at the base, with mid mountain temps in the teens, and winds are expected out of the NW, calm and gusting to only about 15mph at the summit. Snow and low viz conditions expected to continue though the entire day.
Get out and get active if you're trying to ski this powder on the South Face, as the resort is sure to take this number and run with it. Ski with caution as this snow is likely softer than air in spots, and therefore won't provide as much cushion as you may be expecting at a pivitol point during your journey through the Bavarian Forest. As for the rest of the resort, the skiing is still phenomenal, and the groomers should even be nice and smooth as well. I hope you appreciate this timely and accurate report, and share it with your friends and family, and consider becoming a supporter/contributor!
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
