FRIGID TEMPS, TRACE OF SNOW OVERNIGHT, 2-3" YESTERDAY
Temperatures have reached a balmy -16°F at the summit this morning, and are below 0°F across the rest of the resort. Yesterday's dense, grabby snow has been coated with another trace. The only constant is change on Lone Mountain, and we've certainly seen a lot of that recently with a pinch of sun baking, a healthy dose of wind grooming and wind scouring and now some more freezing. These cold temps should persist through the weekend, so if you're interested in skiing on the weekend, without the typical weekened crowds, now's the time. While it certainly isn't the coldest skiing we've ever had, it'll be the coldest day out there yet this season.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps should range between -13°F at the summit, and eventually warming up to 9°F at the base, with mid mountain temps starting off around -5°F this morning. Winds are calm and out of the North. Clouds and snow will linger this morning, breaking up for a sunny afternoon.
Don't expect to ski any upper mountain terrain this morning, as these cold temps make it dangerous for everybody in a rescue situation. Factor in chalky skiing on variable conditions, and Patrol is likely going to play it extra safe. Ski smart and enjoy the pretty views on days like today. What snow is falling is not cold smoke, as usually when it is this cold the snow gets very dense, and has some grip. Dress, warm, cover up, and if you've never tried an OuterU faceglove, check them out, they're great for days like today.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
