NO NEW SNOW FOR 24 HOURS, CONTINUED FRIGID TEMPS
MID MOUNTAIN BASE DEPTH AT LOBO: 46"
For those willing and able to endure the cold, there is great skiing to be had. Today is expected to be slightly warmer than yesterday, by about 5°F, however there's slightly more cloud cover expected, and a chance for more snow. Yesterday in ski school, my two kids wanted to ski all day long. It's the kind of cold where as long as you keep skiing hard, you can keep yourself warm enough. The lower mountain still carries a bit of a crunch underneath from the warmer days we had earlier this week, but word on the street is our upper mountain terrain is still chalky, yea even creamy on the South Face. NW winds have continously blown up there, stirring up this dense, almost sandy snow.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps should range from -9°F at the summit, to 10°F at the base by noon, with mid mountain temps starting off around 0°F this morning. Winds will be out of the North, gusting to 30mph at the summit, possibly picking up later in the afternoon. Clouds and flurries are expected all day, so don't hope on warming up in the sun
Well for MLK weekend it's pretty calm out there, largely due to this cold I would imagine. These temps should persist into tomorrow, before we get back into the double digits in a couple of days. We truly are spoiled to be able to enjoy so much great skiing from the comfort of heated bubble chairs. Once again ski with caution as the cold can really take it out of you, and can make any rescue situation much more serious.
And have fun out there.
