TRACE OF NEW SNOW IN 24 HRS
Just a trace of new snow over the last 24 HRS, and it's coming down again right now. 88mph South winds have been absolutely ripping all night, and expected to continue all day long, shifting Westerly this afternoon. There's more snow expected later on today, along with a 30°F temperature drop over the next 24 HRS when the wind does shift. No sign of the wind speed calming down until tonight. Expect lots of winds holds and scoured skiing out there today.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps are expected to range between 12°F at the summit this morning, and 28°F at the base, with a high of about 18°F by the time lifts start to close this afternoon. Winds should continue out of the South for a few more hours, then gradually begin shifting Westerly before noon, bringing with them colder air, gusting just as violently as before.
Snow is expected throughout the day today, and then later in the day tomorrow. It's certainly not a day to ski for the light hearted, as we can expect a very cold breeze. It's going to be a long day out there for these liftys and patrollers, and they have to ski back to the locker room by the time temps have dropped significantly. Dress warm, use the bubbles, expect to ski only lower mountain terrain, and don't ski anywhere you might get trapped by a lift going on wind hold. There's no telling what our skiing up top will look like after this storm, but thankfully everything down low will fair well, and should even get a little smoother.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
