1" OF NEW SNOW AFTER LIFTS CLOSED LAST NIGHT, ANDESITE ABOUT 2"
Just an inch or two of new snow last night after the lifts closed, and thankfully winds have settled back down, gusting to only about 30mph at the summit overnight. South winds are prevailing and with that temps are expected to continue rising once again today. We can expect flat light all day, with snow flying by noon, fingers crossed. Thankfully, our temps should feel absolutely tepid compared to what we have been used to this week. Yesterday's roaring South Winds are sure to have shaken things up a bit, buffing and stripping the South Face, and perhaps depositing some goods in the Bowl, or on more sheltered aspects of off Challenger.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps should range between 12°F at the summit, and 30°F at the base with mid mountian temps in the 20's, and winds are expected to continue out of the South, gusting to about 25mph at the summit. All under increasingly cloudy skies and snow in the afternoon.
Dress warm as there's no knowing for sure when the weather will turn. As these South winds push North, the will meet snow from the North West which will get pulled down towards Lone Mountain later this evening, dropping temps and changing the content of the snow. No big dumps predicted in the forecast for a couple of days, just a trickle of snow here and there, but we will take whatever the heavens offer us with open arms.
As crowds swell through the weekend, it's best to ski around with the ebbs and flows of traffic that surges at the base lifts. There's the mid morning rush between 10-11 filled with go getters that just couldn't get ready in time, there's the lul around noon when everybody goes to lunch. And there's the late morning and early afternoon jams at 8 Shooter on the North side, when everybody decides to go check out Moonlight at the same time. It's all fun and it's a dance with the mountain. Thankfully our resort has done a lot of future prepping as more people pour in every year. Make some new friends out there today.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
