24 HOUR TOTALS:
LOOKOUT RIDGE AND LOBO: 12"
BAVARIA AND ANDESITE: 8"
Well a huge reason why I have always been a bigger fan of reporting rather than forecasting has showed itself once again today, as we have gotten a foot of snow in the last 24 hours at mid mountain. That's right, a few inches throughout the day yesterday, and 8 more inches overnight, and our Lookout Ridge and Lobo weather stations are getting buried. At just over 5% water, this stuff is going to be the perfect buffer between you and the base below. It's still dumping out there, now and expected to keep falling for most of the day, with there even being a chance for some sun poking through the clouds this afternoon. Expect whiteout skiing, but thankfully winds are calm and out of the NW. Upper mountain is sure to be loaded up as well, expect Ski Patrolt to take extreme caution as drifts will be large up there due to 35mph gusts through the night. Seems like this snow has fallen fairly evenly for Big Sky Standards, with Andesite and Bavaria reading just a few inches lower, but likely skiing just as deep. This snow has fallen fast and late so don't expect to find any respite on any groomed terrain out there today.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps are expected to range beteween 1°F at the summit, and 21°F at the base, with mid mountain temps in the teens, and winds are expected out of the NW, gusting to only about 20mph at the summit. All of this under cloudy snowy skies, with a chance for sun poking through this afternoon.
Well drive safe out there this morning, ski hard, and make some friends on a Pow Day! Keep your cool as we should have plenty more where this came from. More and more snow is expected to keep on falling. Do not trust that just because something is open, that it is 100% free of avalanche danger, and like I mentioned before, expect Patrol to take extra cautions. From tip to tail the mountain is going to be a powdery paradise out there, and there's even more on the way! What a season it has been so far, just think of what it will be! Keep those snow prayers up.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
