4-7" OF NEW SNOW IN LAST 24 HOURS @ 5AM, SOUTH SIDE FAVORED SLIGHTLY
NW winds have started drifting over Lone Mountain, dropping temps by a few degrees and bringing with them another 4-7" of Cold Smoke in the last 24 hours. It seems so far, that the South Face is being slightly favored with Bavaria having the highest overnight total as of 5am, and it looks like things could be shaping up for a bit of a South Face anomaly at some point today, fingers crossed.
Keep an eye on the weather stations this morning, as we could see a spike in snowfall before opening.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps should range between 3°F at the summit, and 21°F the base, with mid mountain temps in the low teens all day long, and winds are expected out of the NW, gusting to about 30mph until we open, then hopfully dying down for the rest of the day, giving way to a calm, cold flow of snow from the NW.
Dress warm! Not a luxurious bluebird pow day out there, but an epic whiteout battle with the elements. Gusts over 30mph overnight have been swriling in, as it seems there's still more cold air from the NW waiting to deliver more goods, hopefully in a calm and collected manner. Yesterday crowds were big, but the skiing was all-time, and people had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy themselves. The snow is falling faster than it can get skied, and we've got another set of refills out there today. Low viz and wind drifts kept patrol busy yesterday morning, delaying openings of the Tram and the Bowl, and similar conditions will likely persist today.
Drive safe out there as the roads are covered in low density snow that is sure to blow around make for some white out conditions. No telling how crowds will be out there.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
