NO NEW SNOW FOR 24 HRS
No new snow now for 24 hours here on Lone Mountain, and today is shaping up to be a beaut. NW winds are prevailing, currently holding mid mountain temps in the teens, and gusting to 35 mph at the summit. Things are expected to calm a bit after the sunrise, warming up gradually as the day goes on, but not reaching that boiling point we felt last week. A firm and fast morning awaits, but hopefully not icy and crusty, unless it's a lower mountain aspect that has just been soaking up the sun. Temps today are going to be perfect for lower mountain carves in the sun, and fast fun on the upper mountain North Facing steeps.
WIND AND TEMPS: Temps today should range between 19°F at the summit, and 39°F at the base this afternoon, mid mountain temps should be in the 20's most of the day, gradually climbing above freezing this afternoon. Winds are expected out of the West, perhaps shifting a bit more Southerly which would bring us some of this warmer air, gusting to about 30mph at the summit.
Today's skiing all depends on the way the wind blows. Will it be warm SW breeze, increasing temps and slushy spring skiing? Or will it be a cooler NW breeze, keeping things, preserved, and preventing a total thaw which would eventually freeze over again? Most likely, the lower mountain is going to soften up no matter what. That sun is just too strong and too high in the sky this time of year for anything else to happen. We lose an hour tonight so be ready to make the most of today!
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
