NO NEW SNOW FOR A 2 DAYS
No new snow on Lone Mountain for a couple of days, we've barely lost any base with our warm temps, and we also lost an hour of sleep... But the good news is it seems winter is on it's way back to our mountain. Today, the weather is beginning to shift, increasing winds as the day goes on are asign that the next sytem is getting ready to roll through. Air temps are expected to be similar today, but yesterday, the NW breeze prevailed, preventing things from heating up fully out there. These colder temps have preseved truly excellent chalky skiing in the Bowl and off Challenger, but Patrol is still limiting terrain off of the tram. Today we can expect more of the same, especially if winds blow as hard as predicted.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps should range between 25°F at the summit, and 39°F at the base, with winds expected out of the W/SW, gusting to 60mph at the summit by the afternoon, 25mph at mid mountain. All under a mix of clouds and sun.
If the sun's not beating down on it, the snow is simply not going to be that creamy spring snow you're expecting. Lower mountain and tree runs will conisist of chalky turns, maybe some soft turns, and crusty turns. If you want consistent turns, the Bowl and Challenger are you place to go. Temps crawled above freezing yesterday at mid mountain and below, and are not going to warm up as fast today due to cloud cover. Winds are expected to howl over the next few days and snow is supposed to start trickling in tomorrow. Pray for big springtime dumps!
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
