NO NEW SNOW FOR 24 HOURS
No new snow to talk about here, but the weather took the last 24 hours to change the seasons here on Lone Mountain. NW winds have been steady, gusting to 35mph at the summit all night long, and up there temps have remained well below freezing. Today may be a different story, sunny skies are expected, mininmal winds, and we may start seeing mashed potatoes on the South Face, if winds don't prevail. Things will be a bit firm this morning, as mid mountain temps hit the mid 30's yesterday, and are now just slightly below freezing.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps are expected to range between 25°F at the summit, and 45°F at the base, with mid mountian temps climbing over 40°F in the afternoon. Winds are expected out of the West, gusting only to about 15mph at the summit. Some clouds this morning, but sun expected all day long.
Once again the mountain is going to transform from it's wintery finish, to a slushier, springier version of itself. With all of this base to work with, spring skiing is welcomed with open arms in my book, smooth flowy, slushy moguls in the lower mountain sun, and chalky fast steeps higher up. We can expect higher temps than we've seen all season, so be prepared for things like the A to Z's to be shut down due to wet slides, as well as the South Face.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
