NO NEW SNOW FOR 24 HRS, BASE MELT 2"
Another warm day ahead of us and another couple of inches has melted off of our base. Today we can expect temps to be just as warm as yesterday, if not a little warmer. Mid mountain temps are already at 40°F at 8am this morning, and the summit already has air temps above freezing, with winds hitting 50mph. This warm breeze is already melting plenty of snow, the problem is we've got clouds rolling in this afternoon, and with it being spring and all, you never know when, it could be earlier. The later the clouds get here the better for us, and you're ski day. Tonight, temps begin to drop and these rain clouds will turn to snow. There's a chance this weather hits as rain at the summit, but the lower mountain will almost certainly get wet. However, I have seen rain on 90% of Six Shooter, with a foot of new snow at the base of Headwaters before.
WIND AND TEMPS: Today's temps are expected to range between 32°F at the summit, and 52°F at the base, with mid mountain temps in the high 40's, winds are expected out of the Southwest gusting to 45mph at the summit. All under mostly cloudy skies this morning, followed by a brief bit of sun, then more clouds rolling in anytime afternoon.
This heat wave sure has been something, but thankfully temps drop back down to the mid 30's with chances for snow for nearly a week straight. That's right people, winter is not over yet on Lone Mountain, but we will have to see how much damage is down by this warmth. Pray for snow and let's hope that the steeps survive this. Our entire mountain is in great shape to handle a good bit of rain, but let's hope those temps drop fast tonight and we start building our base back up, rather than breaking it down.
As always, remember to stay safe, and have fun out there.
